The Box-sets  is EMI Classics’ celebration of the 40th anniversary of German conductor Otto Klemperer’s death. They pays tribute to the incomparable conductor with the release of an extensive edition of 11 luxurious yet affordably-priced boxsets. Two new sets devoted to operas by Mozart, Wagner and Strauss are available this March.

5-CD collection sees Otto Klemperer lead the Philharmonia and New Philharmonia orchestras in compelling performances of works by Wagner and Richard Strauss.

2013 marks the Wagner’s bicentennial year. Wilhelm Richard Wagner (22 May 1813 – 13 February 1883) was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor primarily known for his operas. Unlike most opera composers, who generally left the task of writing the libretto (the text and lyrics) to others, Wagner wrote his own libretti, which he referred to as “poems”. Wagner’s  musical style introduced new ideas in harmony, melodic process  and operatic structure, he explored the limits of the traditional tonal system, which gave keys and chords their identity, pointing the way to atonality in the 20th century. This 43 CDs boxset is Deutsche Grammophon’s comprehensive collection, excellent value for anyone who enjoys Wagner operas, there are DG, Decca and EMI recordings here:
